Extracts from Inglewood Forest Enclosure Map - Lazonby Allotments

Introductory notes.

Geoff Wilson supplied the photos and makes the following comments:

These Enclosure Map extracts from 1819 show things considerebly changed from how they are today in some parts of Lazonby. These maps are, of course, pre-railway. The drafters of these maps weren't too bothered about scale or exactly where north was, and the map's purpose was to show portions of land, not how to go from A to B. It's clear however, that the roads priority that apply at many road junctions today was not the same priority in the pre-motor vehicle days of 1819. It also appears that some routes that today are only footpaths may have had greater significance in 1819. Consequently it's not easy to match the 1819 maps with what we see on the ground today.
