Lazonby History Society celebrated its tenth aniversary in 2008.

It started with a small group of interested locals who had two guided walks around the village, looking at local landmarks and history.
We have six meeting a year from September to March, covering a wide range of history and environmental topics, with expert speakers, usually illustrated with slides.
In the summer, we normally have three visits to local places of historical interest.
Meetings take place on the third Wednesday of the month, either in the village hall or the Methodist Chapel room and are very well attended by a regular local following.
A special event in our anniversary year was an exhibition about the Settle-Carlisle railway and its impact on our village. Much research was undertaken by a small committee and members of the society, who produced not only an excellent exhibition, but also new archival material.
We welcome visitors to all our meetings for a small charge and if you wish to become members the annual fee is £5.00 single, £7.00 couple.
