"The countryside is changing fast
everywhere for all kinds of
reasons. Lazonby has changed a great deal even in the last ten years
and change will continue. We cannot prevent change, but we can manage
it, if we decide what we want and use all the influence we can, to make
lazonby the kind of place we should like it to be in future years."
Although the idea of of producing a
plan was first suggested
in 2002, search for funding and work did not begin until 2003, when the
steering committee had been formed.
After much hard work, a
questionnaire was produced for the
whole of the parish to give its opinion about how the village and
surroundings could be improved. The results were collated and many
social events were held to publicise its contents to
parishioners.
A photographic competition was held
highlighting many of the
positive aspects of our environment, and a village walk stressed the
village's importance in history and unique appearance.
The launch of the plan took place
in 2005, honoured by the
presence of Right HON. David McClean MP, with many of the parishioners
enjoying the occasion.
A working part of the plan is the
action plan highlighting
areas of concern where development needs to take place.
A sub committee bravely took this
on, and work is still
ongoing, ably supported by many actions of the parish Council.
Action has been taken on a Village
Design Statement, Youth
work, Village Notice Boards, Traffic concerns, Footpaths and other
local initiatives.
The establishment of the web-site
was a major aim of the
plan, to improve communication both within the parish and from outside,
so this has been a very positive step.
