SALT GRITTING IN LAZONBY
The County Council has made a quantity of salt / grit mix available for Parish / Local Councils as a short term measure to alleviate some of the problems brought on by the current cold snap.   Each Parish that partakes has to have access to somewhere to receive and store the material, and volunteers who would spread it at the most appropriate locations within the Parish.  They have initially mixed 1,000 tonnes of this material, which will be delivered to the agreed location within the Parishes.

Lazonby Parish Council has arranged for the maximum load, allowed at present, of 7 tonnes of the salt grit to be placed in the following two locations in the Parish of Lazonby:

1.On the north side of Scaur Lane between the entrances to Lamb Lea and Scaur Close;   See map

2.On the Eden Bridge Car Park near the recycling point.   See map

The Parish Council would like volunteers to help spread the salt grit around the Parish and help fill up the existing grit bins if needed.  If you have a trailer or any other means of transport that can help move the salt grit around the Parish, and help the local community, please can you contact the Clerk to the Parish Council on 01228 548516 or Email LazonbyPC@googlemail.com.

Most salt grit bins in the village were replenished on 6th January, but if nearby bins become empty again please help yourself to the salt grit from the above location/s to put down on the public highways in your local area.

Please note that the salt heaps and grit bins are for use on public roads only (including adjacent footpaths) and not for personal use on private property. Please report any misuse to the Highways Hotline on 0845 609 6609.

There is a shortage of salt grit nationally, so please use the supply given to Lazonby wisely as the current extreme weather is expected to be with us for a few weeks yet.

Thank you for your co-operation
Rebecca Wyatt
Clerk to the Parish Council
