Lazonby's canoe launch steps were created a while back and designed for canoeists to be able to launch themselves into the River Eden.  British Canoeing liased with the Parish Council and paid for the launch steps.

The Eden run from Lazonby, is nationally recognised as one of the most picturesque and friendly white water runs in England and is widely known both locally and nationally.

Throughout the year, the launch steps are used by individuals and groups mid-week and mainly weekends.  

The historic restricted agreement is no longer in place and canoeists are following British Canoeing’s policy of “share with care” for a shared, sustainable open access, found in the BC “clear access, clear waters” policy. 

So most Cumbrian paddlers, all Cumbrian clubs in the North - plus many Canoe Clubs nationally - are grateful for both the parking at Lazonby and the launch steps - as they set off for a fabulous whitewater paddle down to Armathwaite (and beyond) or egress from a quiet run from Langwathby and above.

The Canoeist launch is situated on the B6413 by Eden Bridge, on the Lazonby Parish side, and next to the Recycling Centre at Eden Bridge car park.   If you are a canoeist please feel free to use the canoe launch steps but please be mindful of other users of the river and people using the recycling area, the car park and the picnic area.

The Parish Council are currently looking into the possibilities of the public giving a voluntary donation to use the car park in the near future.
